Salsa Level 1 February Mondays 7-8pm
*Prior dance experience recommended, but not required
Dates: Mondays in February 7-8pm
Location: 107 W Beverley St Staunton VA
Class Overview:
Salsa 1 focuses on foundational steps and closed position moves as well as dile que no and guapea.
Salsa 2 focuses on enchufla (inside turn) moves including several arm holds.
Salsa 3 focuses on vacilala (outside turn) series.
Salsa 4 focuses on add ons and putting it all together for combinations.
You are not required to take all 4 months of courses. We teach salsa cubana in cohorts of 4 months to ensure progression. After 4 months, you should have a basic understanding of salsa and be able to lead or follow a simple dance. All Salsa students are welcome to take Rueda for free (Tuesdays 7-8pm) and can attend any ‘lower level’ course for free as well.
What to Expect:
Our Salsa class will guide you through the fundamentals of Cuban-style salsa, including basic steps, timing, and the essential turns and moves that characterize Casino dancing. You will learn how to lead or follow in a partner setting, and how to interpret the music to make your dance both fluid and dynamic. Each week, we build upon the foundations, gradually introducing more complex combinations and patterns. The class not only focuses on steps and technique but also on the style and attitude that make Cuban Salsa unique and captivating. And, if participants are open to it, we will learn some Latin Contra (Rueda de Casino), a SUPER fun, high energy call-and-response dance where we change partners after every move.
- Prepare to sweat- this class will be a workout!
- No partner needed, LGBT+ friendly
- Come as you are! Sneakers welcome.
- This class is not accessible friendly.
For $30 more bucks you can also join us in Fundamentals and all of our workshops by purchasing an unlimited pass.
Cancellation Policy- We offer no refunds for any group classes, courses, or workshops. We will try to accommodate transfers if possible.
